This was an experimental film where I had written no script prior to making it, I wanted to shoot images that I envisioned in my head, that visually shows a character feeling trapped within modern society. I wanted the film to be dark, moody, atmospheric and grips the audience in a way. So I simply got a camera, set up shots, and from there I started to build a narrative and a mini character study. The film follows an unnamed character (portrayed by myself), giving a voiceover of his thoughts and feelings of the world he lives in. He describes society as a fake mirror, how on the outside that people are seen how they want to be seen and heard how they want to be heard, but how can he trust people when he doesn't know what's going on inside their heads? Therefore, he falls back on what's always been here, the feeling of nature against him, as it's the only thing that makes him feel something. The film is presented in black and white, as it reflects the dark mental state of the character within the film, and this is amplified further in the film's 4:3 aspect ratio presentation to capture the nature of the character as he's closed himself off from the rest of society. While there are some things I would change about it, I'm overall still proud of what I accomplished and it remains one my most visually striking films I've made with no budget.
